Daily Activities

Most of the cabins onboard feature balconies, and we like that these felt big -- we really wanted to spend time on our veranda, sitting in the comfy chairs as we sailed. A ship that appeals to families, Prima offers an impressive number of family options that fit all sorts of budgets. For the adrenaline lover, the ship's top decks are the spots to be hanging out.

Our Final Evening on Norwegian Prima

From our experience staying in the Haven, to dining at new restaurants, and watching new production shows, we cover it all in our signature day-by-day Norwegian Prima inaugural cruise review. These staterooms feature a tranquil, light blue and neutral-toned aesthetic. We can’t wait to get back onboard to test out more of the dining options and experience more of the entertainment offerings like Noise Boys once it debuts. In our opinion, this ship offers a traditional NCL cruise experience with more premium finishes akin to Celebrity’s Edge Class of ships. Undoubtedly, the interior and exterior spaces on Norwegian Prima are gorgeous. The ship exudes the look and feel of a premium cruise ship with more intimate and upscale venues.

Things We're Excited About On Norwegian Prima Cruise Ship

NCL has spared no expense in the design of Prima’s spa area. There are multiple treatment rooms for those with a spa pass. All of the restaurants are complimentary with the exception of Coco and Starbucks. If you want to try something from several of the restaurants, find a seat in the middle of the chaos. Menus from all of the restaurants will be found on those tablets.

Occasionally this show can be expanded to a wider audience inside of the main theater. Norwegian’s Prima Class has taken the idea of a traditional sports court and modernized it for contemporary cruising kids and families. Up on Deck 18, many of the ships’ thrills are concentrated, including the expanded, three-deck Norwegian Speedway racetrack. Cruisers who are indecisive or adventurous eaters will especially love the Indulge Food Hall, new to Norwegian’s Prima Class.

Complimentary Dining

Even for those who are just a bit curious about a relaxing day at sea will likely be impressed by the sexy design of the thermal suite. Enter the suite by a grand spiral staircase with two pools beneath a multilevel waterfall. A stroll along Ocean Boulevard, located on Deck 8 onboard Prima and Viva, has surprises in store. These include a glass-bottomed walkway called Oceanwalk or the elegant La Terrazza open-air lounge overlooking the ocean. Who wouldn’t want to drink or dine on a cruise ship with alfresco views of the sunset? The concept continued throughout the Breakaway and Breakaway Plus Class.

On NCL’s site, there’s often a countdown clock showing how long a particular offer will last. My family chose this ship and cruise line because of a great itinerary. There were a variety of port stops as well as a day at sea for some relaxing and recharging. As it turns out, one of the port stops we were looking forward to was changed.

Norwegian Prima Cabins are Spacious, Offer Variety

Take your taste buds on a delicious journey through the Indulge Food Hall. When you imagine Prima, envision yourself swimming on top of the ocean. This ship was built around a myriad of pools, including two Infinity Pools, a main pool, an Aqua Park, a tidal wave slide and countless hot tubs. Prima takes relaxation and water play to a whole new level. Her most unique water features live on Deck 8 at Ocean Boulevard's Infinity Beach, where you'll find two breathtaking Infinity Pools on either side, surrounded by lounge chairs and daybeds. It doesn't get much better than lying in the sun, listening to the waves, then floating in an Infinity Pool as you stare directly into the ocean.

If you eat every night in the MDR, you'll likely have enough choice to keep you happy, and the dishes offered are very good. If you've cruised before, or even if you just like to venture a bit off the beaten path, then you might want to skip the typical activities and try something a little different. Our modern inside staterooms are highlighted with appointments like a TV, sitting area and more.

While the food was good, the traffic flow was not, and once you had your food in hand, finding a place to eat it was not easy. For breakfast one morning, I balanced my plate on the waitstaff’s cleaning area and ate there. Norwegian touts its Freestyle Dining as a way to have freedom and flexibility about where and when you eat. There are no set dining times, and while that sounds great, you can’t just walk up and go wherever you want. Another big difference on this ship versus others with NCL is the pool deck. It’s near the back of the ship on deck 17, and it’s small compared to other ships, where the pool area takes up the majority of a deck.

There is also access to the Haven’s exclusive bar, restaurant and lounge. Distinguished by a more intimate size with all the signature dining, entertainment and top-deck attractions, Norwegian Viva joined its nearly identical sister in August 2023. Here’s why Prima Class is one of our favorite classes of ships, across the board. One old complimentary favorite has returned on Prima, The Local. The stateroom is fairly typical with two lower beds that convert to a queen. My family balcony cabin also had a convertible sleeper sofa.

There are two main sets of elevators on the ship, one midship and another forward. A third set is available only to guests who are staying in The Haven, an exclusive area with a private concierge, butler, restaurant, bar, lounge, pool and other perks. Only a small percentage of specialty dining reservations are available before getting on board so it seemed like everything was booked. Once passengers are on board, the remaining reservations open up. The cabin seemed very spacious because the bed was by the balcony, which left a big open space in the cabin. While this was nice, anyone sleeping next to the balcony would have a difficult time getting out of bed without hitting the sliding glass door or the bed. Not new, but completely rethought and redesigned, all 107 of the Haven's suites have been shifted to the aft, or back of the ship, according to the deck plans. Whiskey lovers will appreciate the upscale Whiskey Bar on Deck 8 in the Penrose Atrium.

The Haven’s suites depart from the neutral decor you’ll find throughout the other suites, with bold, dark color palettes that give the spaces an elegant and upscale feel. The ship also features a variety of new, first-of-their-kind venues and attractions that likewise make the ship’s construction remarkable. These range from the 44,000-square-foot Ocean Boulevard that wraps the entirety of the ship to the first sculpture garden at sea and beyond. Norwegian Cruise Line took delivery of Norwegian Prima in July 2022. The ship is the first of the new Prima-class, which is the cruise line’s first new class of ships in almost 10 years. While the ship may not be as large as some of the other mega-ships sailing the oceans recently, Norwegian Prima does have the advantage of premiering with a range of first-at-sea experiences.

Another new element on Prima is a dedication to sustainable food and drink, which can be experienced at the new Metropolitan bar. Craft cocktails that minimize food waste and biodynamic wines will make you feel like you're doing good for the world — while sipping amazing drinks on the ocean. Our popular teppanyaki-style restaurant has been updated and renamed — Hasuki offers all the favorite dishes and excitement, in a more elevated environment. Our classic French restaurant, Le Bistro, has been outfitted with a jaw-dropping hand-blown chandelier, which is not to be missed. And of course, favorites like Cagney's Steakhouse, Onda by Scarpetta and Le Bistro French restaurant will be on board (with a bit of Prima flair, naturally). NCL's luxury "ship-within-a-ship" ( exclusive/keycard-access-only) complex has 107x Haven Suites (aft-positioned) and 2x private elevators - exclusively for Haven passengers.

As early renderings of the ship Norwegian Prima were revealed, my anticipation to sail and write a Norwegian Prima review grew stronger. There were many innovative enhancements added to this latest ship in NCL’s fleet and I was excited to see the finished product. People were already lined up to board the Prima for the next cruise. In all ports, the disembarkation process was smooth and simple. I just had to tap my ship’s card to sign out, and when I returned, I had to go through security like in an airport and tap my card again.
